体のある部位から別の部位へがんが拡がること。拡がったがん細胞によって形成された腫瘍は、「転移性腫瘍」または「転移巣」と呼ばれる。転移性腫瘍には最初の（原発）腫瘍でみられるものと類似した細胞が含まれる。「metastasis（転移）」の複数形は「metastases」である。
