抗原（異物）に対する反応として形質細胞（白血球の一種）によって作られる蛋白の一種。それぞれの抗体は、ただ1つの特定の抗原にのみ結合する性質をもつ。この結合の目的は、抗原の破壊を促進することにある。抗体の働き方には、抗原の性質に応じて、いくつかの様式が存在する。ある抗体は直接抗原を破壊する。白血球が抗原を破壊するのを容易にする抗体もある。
