II期は、がんが拡がっている部位に応じて、さらにIIA期とIIB期に分類される。IIA期では、食道の筋層または食道外壁までがんが拡がっている。IIB期では、食道の内側から3番目までの層のいずれかまでがんが拡がっていて、なおかつ周辺のリンパ節に転移が認められる。
