蛋白が特定の器官（局限性アミロイドーシス）または全身（全身性アミロイドーシス）に沈着する病型である。原発性（原因の分からないもの）、あるいは二次性（ある種のがんなど別の疾患を原因とするもの）のいずれかである。一般に、原発性アミロイドーシスは神経、皮膚、舌、関節、心臓および肝臓に影響を及ぼし、続発性アミロイドーシスは脾臓、腎臓、肝臓および副腎に影響を及ぼすことが多い。
