リンパ組織の丸い塊で、周囲は結合組織の被膜に覆われている。リンパ腺ではリンパ（リンパ液）が濾過され、リンパ球（白血球）が蓄えられている。リンパ腺はリンパ管に沿って分布している。「lymph node（リンパ節）」とも呼ばれる。
リンパ系の解剖図：リンパ管と、リンパ節、扁桃、胸腺、脾臓、骨髄などのリンパ器官を示す。リンパ液（透明な液体）とリンパ球はリンパ管を介してリンパ節まで移動し、リンパ球はそこで有害な物質を破壊する。リンパ液は心臓の近くにある大きな静脈を通って血流に流入する。
